30Thoughts, 500Words, Day 2: I’m a Quora Partner! Not 100% Sure What That Means, But Doesn't It Sound Impressive AF?3 min read

Welcome! Its currently Day 2 of my 30Thoughts 500Words Challenge, and today I’m discussing the Question-Answer website Quora, and its revenue-sharing invite-only Quora Partners Program.

What is Quora?

Quora is “a question-and-answer website where questions are asked, answered, edited, and organized by its community of users in the form of opinions” according to Wikipedia. Interestingly, however, I lack any recollection of creating a Quora account, a phenomenon that’s been experienced by countless others, I’ve come to find out.

The most rational explanation for my spontaneous Quora account? I found on Quora! That’s full circle, man. Fo realz.

“I’m on Quora! Wait-what’s Quora?” LOL

It was Mr. Facebook! With a link! Find out more on the next episode of Clue: Social Media Edition.

Regardless of how I ended up with a Quora account- since my pseudo-forced joining, I’ve been receiving Quora Daily Digest e-mails pretty regularly. And boy, can they be a fascinating read! Before I ever typed a single word on that site, the Quora-bots must have tracked TF out my Internet activity, as my Digest topics were already tailored so closely to my interests I could become sucked into Quora, like a Flowbee.

Preeeeeety.

My Quora Debut Is Strong

Back on January 8th, I experienced my first urge to answer a Quora question. While browsing the topic of my beloved band Queen, on a whim I composed an answer to a very straightforward question:

And my first Quora response did quite well!

9 upvotes! The validation felt very nice. So the following evening, I up and answered another question, once again, on the topic of Queen:

My second Quora answer did alright, but I personally feel that it should have done better.

A month and a half later, I answered a third question, about Queen again. My answer was hella precise, too. I even embedded a video!

** Crickets **

Zero. Upvotes.

Say WHAT??

Maybe this is why my blog has grown so damn slowly over the past four years. My most basic prose? Receives accolades. My most brilliant compositions? Completely ignored.

Oh Hi, Mark!

I’m A Quora Partner. Know What That Means?

Cause if you do, could you let me know too?

Last Friday, I received this email:

I’m either talented or lucky. Probably the latter.

Before accepting, I did some research. It didn’t help.

Another Quora question… about Quora.

Well, that just clears everything up! #not

So why did I accept the invitation to this mysterious club? It was pretty much the last line of the e-mail that sold me.

“The most successful Partners are making more than $1,000 a month.”

Really? For composing Quora questions?

WHAT CRAZED SORCERY IS THIS?

Could this, one day, be me?

Since becoming a Quora Partner, I’ve submitted 30 questions. Ten per day, for the last 3 days.

I’ve earned $0.11.

But when I hit that first hot thou, I’ll definitely let you all know.

If we haven’t all died of old age by then, that is.

Til Tomorrow, Y’all!
